Reaping the benefits of sleep
Being human, sleep is part of our everyday existence. Scientists can only present theories as to why our body needs sleep. It has been said that sleep is a need, a requirement of our body system, just like our need for food and clothing. Scientists have not been able to explain explicitly what happens when we sleep and how we benefit from it, but it has been theorize that getting the right quantity as well as that quality sleep contributes to a healthy body.
Just like we need to eat three full meals each day to remain healthy and strong, we also need to get an average of 7-8 hours of sleep every night to function efficiently. Anything less than that is already considered us depriving ourselves of quality sleeping time which in the long run may lead to poor health.
Some of the benefits of getting that goodnight’s sleep are as follows:
- We become more productive and creative because of mental alertness and attentiveness that allows us to do our work efficiently and properly.
- We recharge our brain functions to improve memory use and increase aptitude.
- We become more focus, observant and conscious with our actions thus promoting quick reflexes and fostering our sense of decisiveness.
- We lessen the risk of heart problems and inhibit any other cardiovascular diseases from developing.
- We become more active physically, hence promoting vitality and strengthens our senses to do our task more proficiently.
- We lessen the risk of developing diabetes and obesity that may lead to more serious sleep problems.
For this reasons, there is more to gain than lose if we endeavor towards getting not only that required quantity of sleep but also aiming for that quality sleep that proves to be more beneficial to our health than we can imagine.
