Does your work keep you awake?  Or is it, lifestyle of having frequent all-nighters that prevent you from getting enough sleep?  Whatever is your reason for skimping on that much needed sleep consider first its effects to the overall wellness of your bodily functions particularly the brain before saying that you don’t need all that sleeping hours.

An average of 7-8 hours is needed by adults to gain quality sleep.  For children the number of hours of sleep should be higher as growth hormones are still actively doing their task to help children grow healthy and strong.  Some researchers have identified in their studies, that as we grow older, we tend to sleep less hours and deprive ourselves of that adequate snooze, hence increasing the negative effects from lack of sleep.  To get a better understanding, what exactly happens if we don’t get enough sleep?

One of the effects of lack of sleep is the increase in fatigue.  As we didn’t get the adequate sleep during the night, oftentimes we would be tired, weary and generally gain a feeling of fatigue and slow down in our activities because of the lack of energy.  In addition to this lack of energy, we decrease the possibility of exercising hence contributing to the slow metabolism, which in turns fails to help us burn that calories to shed off the extra pounds.

Another effect of lack of sleep to contemplate on is its contribution in developing poor health sooner or later.  It has been exposed to the general public that sleep deprivation contributes to low mental aptitude and alertness, mounting physical and emotional conditions such as stress.  Simultaneously, lack of sleep increase your chances of developing heart and other cardiovascular health problems such as heart attack, hypertension and high blood pressure

As we experience a decrease in sleeping hours due to work-related factors or lifestyle, it will be in our best interest to think twice and reconsider before deciding on skimping on that sleep.
